Why give to Prince of Peace?

From “Why Prince of Peace?” to “How can we support Prince of Peace?”
Over the past few weeks at Prince of Peace, we have been reverse-autumning a beautifully painted tree in our lobby/narthex area with different colors of leaves. Each week during worship, you have been invited to write on the leaves your answers to the questions, “Why faith, why church, why PoP?” The results of this are both colorful and profound! If you have not already, I invite you to spend some time reading the leaves. Psalm 1 says, “Those who follow God’s hopes and dreams are like a tree planted by an eternal stream whose fruit is born in due season.”  This ancient poem paints an image of the thriving life that faith cultivates.

The past year at Prince of Peace has brought bountiful harvests born of the faithfulness and generosity of each of you!
— an innovative Table Talk program that continues to grow and bring in 70-100 people for each event, educating and building empathy in our wider community and church.

— a youth program bursting with young kids and fantastic volunteers who have beautifully rebranded Sunday school to “Sunday Funday”—an opportunity for faith education and connections with adults in the congregation.

— a music program that continues to feature world-class musicians, songs, and concerts that reflect the diversity of music opportunities and highlight an image of God that is welcoming, open-hearted, and loving

— a revival of our internship program. This integral part of lifting up new clergy and leadership in our ELCA global church begins with supporting and mentoring a seminary student. We have been so fortunate to have Intern Sharon’s deep sense of spirituality and background in group care to learn from. She has already had numerous formative experiences as an intern here. Such a synergy!

— holy and hospitable church grounds- meaning they are well-kept and available to many community groups such as 12-step programs, Scouts, Youth Orchestra, our renters, and members alike. Caring for this property is not cheap, and we are so very grateful for the combined power of financial support and the property committee & Wednesday Work Crew, who do so much!

— The dedicated work of our committee leadership that makes sure we have opportunities to gather and connect (Fellowship Committee), regular events where we can use our hands and bodies to serve others (Social Justice Committee), and our Evangelism Committee who puts in long hours to ensure we are visible to the public, caring for and reaching out to lapsed members, and welcoming in new members and friends to the congregation.

— A hearty education program centered on immigration culminated in an all-ages trip to San Diego to learn about and serve immigrants. The attendees returned home invigorated and moved by their experiences.

As is often said, there is so much happening at PoP. The activities, programming, and opportunities to grow in our connections with God, one another, and our neighbors can only occur if the programs are fully funded. We rely heavily on offerings and donations for our $830,000 plus year budget. Facility rentals and funding from the PoP+Zion Endowment are utilized to cover the remainder of the budget.

Thank you!

We couldn't be here without your support. Thank you for supporting our mission.
