Prince of Peace is a joyful and inclusive ELCA Lutheran Church located in beautiful Silicon Valley, California. We are seeking an energetic and organized team player who will bring excitement and enthusiasm for youth and intergenerational programming – implementing faith formation learning, service and fellowship for all ages. The ideal candidate will have the ability to engage with, relate to, and build relationships with youth and the adults in their lives and will have a heart for social justice.

The individual will work closely with the pastors and staff to organize and help implement a faith formation program of learning, service and fellowship for the children, youth, and families of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

SUMMARY
The Director of Youth and Service will function as a member of the ministry team. The individual will work closely with the pastors and staff to organize and help implement a faith formation program of learning, service and fellowship for the children, youth, and families of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
Essential Functions
- Work to develop relationships with children, youth, and families, to better respond to the changing needs and ministry opportunities within this community.
- Work with the Social Justice Committee to increase our local and global social justice ministry
- Provide hands-on opportunities for service projects and mission trips for a variety of ages to learn how to live out their faith in helping meet the needs of others
- Work collaboratively with pastoral staff to plan weekly and monthly youth events, including high school, Confirmation and our activities for younger children
- Plan, organize and attend youth camps, conferences, and summer trips
- Create, manage and operate within defined budget, lead fundraising activities to support higher cost events and activities
- Provide organization and maintenance of the Youth Room and Youth Supply Closet to keep them inviting and functional
- Recruit and develop adults within the congregation to serve as committed volunteers and mentors; specifically covering Sunday School teaching staff (3 years through 5th grade) and youth programming
- College degree or equivalent experience – youth leadership or camp experience a plus
- Knowledge of and comfort with ELCA Lutheran theology; must be LGBTQIA+ friendly
- Excellent project management, organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work as a team member of the Prince of Peace staff and with volunteers
- Clear sense of ethical limits, confidentiality and age appropriate youth behaviors
- A minimum of three years of experience as a youth director is strongly preferred
Position Details
- Full-time position with compensation based on education and experience
- Includes medical and dental insurance, pension contribution and 3 weeks paid vacation
- Professional development stipend
- Flexible office hours permitted to allow for nights and weekends commitments
- Regular attendance at Sunday worship is required
- Candidate must submit to a background check
